Andy Urbach

Andy was born in New York City (Staten Island), in 1954.  His parents are both from Poland and he is a first generation American. His mother was an interior designer. As she was working toward her degree, he was learning as she was and often critiqued her work before it went out to clients. Andy joined his mother in Manhattan on buying design projects and his first job was in the family textile and design business. He developed a strong sense of color and design by osmosis in a family that had a strong aesthetic sensibility.  He attended college at the University of Rochester and med school at the State University of New York at Buffalo, during which time he dabbled in photography, sculpture and drawing.

Andy played a major role in the design of the new Children’s Hospital, including setting the vision for and execution of function, color, furniture and art.  Andy was captivated by glass 30 years ago. From his first time in the hot shop, he knew that glass blowing was going to be a passion.

Andy studies, works, and collaborates with Drew Hine of Vessel Studio. He is represented by Michael Hertrich Art + Frame.
